Sardine Squares – Training treats recipe for dogs

With homemade dog treats you can be sure of the ingredients and ensure that there are no unnecessary additives. If my liver cake recipe isn’t for you or your hounds (it’s not for the squeamish!), a fish flavoured recipe makes another tasty, moist, training treat that most dogs can’t resist.

Best of all, as well as being a great training treat, you can chop it into very small pieces and freeze it for up to 3 months!

‘Fabulous Fishy’ training treats…

I use rice flour in my sardine squares recipe, but you could use wholemeal flour or gluten-free flour.

My top tips for fishy treats, that your dog will love, are:

  • Always line your baking tin (if baking the treats in the oven)
  • Don’t be afraid to experiment with the recipe.
  • If the consistency appears too dry, add in a little more water
  • Chop the cake into very small pieces, while it’s still warm.
