Separation distress
Not all dogs suffer with separation anxiety or separation related issues, but for those that do there is no doubt that it is distressing for both the dog and the owner. However, with careful training and management separation related issues can be prevented or treated. Dogs are very social animals and form very close bonds with their human companions – especially the primary care-giver. While this may feel like ‘love’ to us, it is not helping our dogs be comfortable or independent when by themselves.
Our leaflet provides guidance on:
- What are the signs of separation related issues
- How to prevent separation related distress
- How to increase your dog’s independence
- How to deal with destructive behaviour
The leaflet was written for the Greyhound Trust but the training advice is suitable for all dogs – not just greyhounds!
